Scott Walker Marathon Runner Ashburn, VA

“If you are a runner and you get injured, you need to go to ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute. They’ll give you straight answers. They’ll tell you if you can run or not and then they’ll get you a program to get you back out there.”

During a training run for the prestigious Boston Marathon, Scott felt a sharp pain shoot through his back. A veteran runner, he’d experienced minor joint and muscle pain before and thought it would “work itself out,” as it had many times before.

“I rested a few days and went back out to ‘test the water,’ but the pain got so intense I could hardly walk. Then, I found myself in the ER, had x-rays and left with the pain medication. I went about a week without running, but since I was in serious training for Boston, I sought advice from my doctor on whether the marathon was out of the question. He encouraged me to adjust my goals for the marathon and to see Mike Ercole at ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute.”

Mike knew immediately what was wrong and he put Scott on an exercise and stretching routine to improve the flexibility of his hamstrings. After just six days at ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute, Mike had Scott running again. Although he missed about three weeks of training because of the back pain, Scott still had about 5 weeks to get ready for the 26.2-mile run. His experience from running several other marathons and the 5 weeks of training were enough to “for a good experience in Boston.” Now, Scott makes a point to do his ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute -recommended home exercises and therapy everyday now.

Scott’s most recent visit to ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute was not his first. “I was a runner in high school back in the mid 90s. I didn’t really know what I was doing. I just went out and ran and got hurt. Mike was the first guy I saw. He showed me what kind of shoes I needed and helped me recover from my knee injury. Since then, I’ve been back for shoulder and other problems. Mike and his staff are just the best.”

With such a long history with ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute’s team members, it’s not surprising that Scott has recommended it to others. “Gosh, yes, I couldn’t count the number of times over the last 15 years or so I’ve told people, if you’re in pain you need to go to Mike’s team. I’ve sent a lot of people there.”
