“Mike and his therapists are a great ‘tag team.’ Whenever I mastered an exercise, they ‘up’d’ the requirement. I was always challenged to do more but never overwhelmed. I was definitely in the right place and the right hands.”
When knee pain began to keep Joseph, 66, away from his favorite fishing streams and his other favorite activities, he talked to a surgeon and together they decided a total knee replacement was his best option. The surgery went well, and Joseph followed it up with three weeks of home therapy.
“After my home therapy, I went to ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute,” Joseph said. “I finished in 12 weeks but most people with my condition go longer. It made all the difference in the world!”
Recovery from a total knee replacement can take up to 9 months, so Joseph continued his exercises at home as recommended by his Physical Therapist. He has been walking and has resumed bicycle riding, a favorite activity he’d given up in 2002. “I was really glad to be able to get back on the bike. I’ve lost 30 pounds, am able to walk longer distances and can do hills and stairs I couldn’t do in the last 6 months before my surgery.”
Joseph says ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute was great at scheduling and reminding him of his appointments. “They’re good, so that’s where people want to go for their rehabilitation. Their popularity taught me to make my appointments way in advance.”
Like most “graduates” of ACE Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Institute, Joseph has spread the word about his experience in therapy, recommending the Institute to “my company wellness nurse and my orthopedic surgeon at Georgetown Hospital.”
